Project Core
Brooks plans to use Project Core as the universal communication framework from early childhood through graduation. Its 36-word Universal Core Vocabulary supports increasingly flexible communication across instruction, routines, relationships, and community experiences.
Staff model language through aided language input, respond to every form of communication, and create frequent reasons to communicate throughout the day.
Feelings and self-advocacy
Core words are supplemented with emotional vocabulary and direct teaching so students can identify feelings, request help, communicate discomfort, refuse, make choices, and advocate for themselves.
Communication belongs everywhere
AAC and other communication systems travel with the student. Communication is practiced during lessons, meals, movement, personal care, transitions, play, recreation, and community experiences—not reserved for speech therapy.
