School-wide theme units

Shared topics, individualized learning.

All classes explore common themes while instruction is adapted to each student’s age, goals, communication, interests, and support needs.

Brooks theme units include Back to School, I Am Unique, Animals, Food, Families and Traditions, Home and Chores, Five Senses, Friendship, When I Grow Up, Leisure, and Home and Community.

Connected learning

One theme creates many ways to participate.

Brooks uses school-wide thematic units to help students develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. All classes participate in the same theme, allowing students of different ages and ability levels to learn about common topics while instruction is tailored to individual goals.

Unit length can change with the school calendar, student needs, instructional priorities, and opportunities for community-based learning. Themes return over time so students can build upon knowledge and experiences from previous years.

The eleven planned themes are Back to School, I Am Unique, Animals, Food, Families and Traditions, Home and Chores, Five Senses, Friendship, When I Grow Up, Leisure, and Home and Community.
